Cookie Policy
We are Spalk (U.S.) Incorporated and we operate the website at spalk.tv and its subdomains, including www.spalk.tv and app.spalk.tv (the Spalk app). This Cookie Policy covers cookies and similar technologies, such as local storage, pixels and software development kits, used on the website.
It explains what cookies are, which ones we use and why, and how you can manage them. Where information we collect through cookies is personal data, our Privacy Policy applies to how we collect and use it.

What are cookies?
Cookies are small files of letters and numbers stored on your computer or mobile device. They help us tell you apart from other visitors, improve your experience and run our service. Some of the things described in this policy are not strictly cookies but work in a similar way, such as information saved in your browser’s own storage. Clearing cookies alone may not remove those. Your browser’s “clear site data” option will.
What cookies do we use and why?
Strictly necessary. Needed to move around the website and use the features you have asked for, such as staying signed in. These are always on, because the service does not work without them.
Functionality. Remember choices you make, such as your theme, which microphone and speakers you use, and your cookie preferences.
Analytics and performance. Help us understand how the website and the Spalk app are used, so we can improve them. We use Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC) and PostHog (provided by PostHog, Inc.). In the Spalk app these are set only if you accept them, and you can change your answer at any time from the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. On our marketing website they are currently set when you arrive; you can block them through your browser settings, and we are extending the same choice to that site.
Advertising. On our marketing website only, each page view sends a signal to Google Ads that can be used to build advertising audiences and to connect an advert click to a later visit. We do not use advertising cookies in the Spalk app.
The cookies we use
The table below groups them by what they are for.
| Purpose | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signing you in Strictly necessary | Spalk | Keeps you signed in as you move around the app, and between visits if you tick “remember me”. These cannot be read by other scripts on the page. | The sign-in cookie lasts 15 minutes and is renewed while you use the app. The “remember me” cookie lasts 1 year. Without it, deleted when you close the browser. |
| Keeping the service working Strictly necessary | Spalk, using Amazon Web Services and Grafana | Sends you to the right server during a speech-to-text session, and keeps you signed in to the dashboards shown inside operator views. | From the length of your browsing session up to 1 day. |
| Remembering your cookie choice Strictly necessary | Spalk and PostHog | Records whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we do not ask you again. | Stored on your device until you clear it. |
| Remembering your preferences Functionality | Spalk | Light or dark theme, whether the sidebar is collapsed, which microphone and speakers you chose, your mixer and intercom levels for an event or team, and where you had read up to in chat. | The sidebar cookie lasts 7 days. The rest is stored on your device until you clear it. |
| Audio soundcheck Functionality | Spalk | When you run a soundcheck we store a random code on your device and send it to us with your operating system and browser details, so we can recognise the same device on a later check. We also store the network address (IP address) you used for each event. | Stored on your device until you clear it. |
| Website analytics Analytics | Google, on our behalf | Counts visits and tells us which pages and features people use. You may see these listed as _ga and _ga_ followed by our property code. In the Spalk app they are set only if you accept analytics cookies. On our marketing website they are set when you arrive. | Up to 400 days. |
| Product analytics Analytics | PostHog, on our behalf | Records how the app is used so we can find faults and improve it, which can include a replay of your session. You may see this listed as ph_ followed by our project code. Set only if you accept analytics cookies. | 1 year. |
| Advertising and audience building Advertising | Google, through Google Ads | On our marketing website only. Each page view sends a signal to Google that can be used to build advertising audiences and to connect an advert click to a later visit. | Set by Google. |
| Signing in with Facebook Functionality | Meta (Facebook) | Loaded on the sign-in page so that the “Sign in with Facebook” option works. Stores an item on your device whose name starts with fbapc_. | Stored on your device until you clear it. |
How you can manage your cookies
In the Spalk app you can accept or decline analytics cookies the first time you visit, and change your answer at any time from the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. Declining also clears the analytics cookies already stored on your device.
You can block cookies in any browser by changing its settings, and most browsers let you delete cookies that have already been set. If you block all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, you may not be able to use all or parts of our website.
